ok so...

my parents have an hdtv and someone bought them a blu ray player, that they never got around to hooking up

whilst moving house, they have lost the instructions for the blu ray player and i don't know how these things work

so my question is....if you connect blu ray to hdtv with an hdmi cable (which they don't have)....will it just automatically start playing in high def?

or do you need to configure stuff

i'm quite the retard, so any advice on how to connect a blu ray player to an hd tv will be very helpful.

(eg...is an hdmi cable just the equivilant of a scart?)
