I don't understand why there havn't been serious attempts to try to make it real for the modern era.

I mean I think that religeon on the whole now accepts science so why doesnt someone update the bible to explain that a lot of stuff that is interpreted as literal was metaphorical and for the people of the past.

Why is there no attempt to try to say that 'the maker' or whatever could just be something that will always be needed to be discovered by theoretical physics/astrophysics (or whatever) there is always mystery (beyond the border of knowledge) why cannot the holy spirit be re-explained as our muse i.e. curiosity that drives us to find out more?
