This is to try to counter, and apologise for, the boring AV thread I just made. Want to see which gets more replies.

What is the worst first impression you've made on the family of your spouse/partner/fuckbud? Or that they've made on yours?

I met some of her family for a meal. They did a toast about something or other and, being very shy I didn't really make eye contact with anyone. They spent the rest of the meal talking about how this showed a lack of moral fibre and respect, as if I wasn't there.

It might say more about the family than you. I have a very traditional (racist), Derby (Sinfin) mother--when I phoned home to tell her about the girl I had been with for the last few months, I got to the fact that she was South African.

Mum: Oh...
Me: And we met at a house party
Mum: ......
Me: Things are going quite well
Mum: Um......
Me: And she was going to come down for Christmas if that suits everyone?
Mum: IS SHE BLACK, BEN? IS SHE BLACK?

I put the phone down but my (now) wife didn't even have to meet my parents to make an awful impression.
