Dr Who: Series 6 Episode 3

vamos [Edit] [Delete] 19:25, 8 May '11

SPOILERS

Pretty good fun I thought. Ticked off all the things you could want from a pirate story and hopefully got a few kids entertained again. Swordfights, treasure, mutiny, planks, stowaways... Lily Cole was perfectly cast and moved really ethereally I thought. The twist with the ghost ship distress call was intriguing too, if a bit hastily explained for some younger audience members to fathom I'd expect. The scene with Rory nearly dying was well handled too.

It also looked great again with the sets and boat all looking superbly eerie. Only real criticism is that the effects and music are so bloody loud I miss large chunks of dialogue in the action scenes. It could just be these posh modern tellys I've watched the last 2 episodes on but it's irritating.

Bigger story arc points:

- Amy seing that face in the hatch again.
- The Doc scanning Amy to find mixed results.
- The TARDIS running off into an alternate time realm and the ghost ship hint at parallel universes at work.

Generally a strong 7.5/10 I thought.

Next week's is written by Neil Gaiman and takes the show 'back to it's roots'. Time Lords. Ood. Junkyard planets. Intriguing... Sincerely hope they get stuck on board the TARDIS and have to explore all the back corridors as hinted at many moons ago in previous classic Who series.
