Probably the entirely wrong time of day / night to start this thread but I have just finally got around to reading Generation X about 20 years late (though not sure I would have enjoyed it as much at the age of 7!), and thoroughly enjoyed it. Already read Life After God a while back which was also really good, just about to get stuck into Shampoo Planet. Also recently picked up Girlfriend In A Coma, Miss Wyoming and Hey Nostradamus on charity shop raids. What are everyone's favourite books of his?

Saturday early evening I was in Brighton in The Great Eastern pub and a man who looked startlingly like Douglas Coupland came in, ordered a whiskey on the rocks, and sat down on an already occupied table across from a young couple, them with his back straight, his chin raised, and one leg crossed high over the other revealing some heavy sockage. He certainly had the air of a genius of some kind, and the way he sat down at the table was very un-British - he looked North American. Not sure he said anything the entire time he was there, save, assumedly to order his drink. Though he did find time to silently help a man in a wheelchair down the step and into the pub.

The only reason I thought it may not have been him was that he was wearing a rather crass denim jacket and carrying a Sainsbury's bag around like Angelos Epithemou, and he did look a shade too old. I didn't say anything but wish I had now as it would have been great to meet him if it actually was him, and not knowing is now annoying me a little. The only thing that stopped me saying anything was the potentially awkward situation if he was a) actually just a local eccentric who just happened to be his doppelganger, or b) an entirely different famous musician or artist in town for Great Escape / Brighton Festival. The latter could potentially have been awful.

Ah well, guess I'll never know, unless someone can reveal he was in Brighton for some purpose over the weekend?
