What caused you to be interested in politics? Why isn't it part of the National Curriculum?

iamwiggy [Edit] [Delete] 12:47, 18 May '11

I think at first it would be my mother being a teacher, explaining about Thatcher and milk and introducing the National Curriculum, combined with the 1997 election (at the time my village was part of the Winchester constituency, the one that had a by-election with Mark Oaten's majority increasing from 2 to 21,556)

But what really got me interested in politics was when I started to take drugs, and all the legal issues around them...

Anyway, i'm astonished at how many young people don't seem to have any interest in politics, or any understanding of how it affects them. Of course, as soon as a Government said they wanted to put politics into the National Curriculum everyone would accuse them of trying to indoctrinate children. But surely if more people have an interest and an understanding in politics, that's good for democracy?
