Thursday Gaming Thread

vamos [Edit] [Delete] 10:01, 19 May '11

I'm guessing lots of you will now have L.A. Noire. So... is it any good? Reviews seem to be averaging around 8ish it appears. Lets see where that rates on modern day gaming score graphs...

1-3: Never, EVER used no matter how bad the title
4: Totally unplayable. Yet somehow still worthy of a 4.
5: Reserved for third party Wii games
6: Kept for all titles released on the 3 platform's download service
7: Totally passable and actually rather original, but due to a lack of guns it loses 2 points.
8: OMG I'VE BEEN SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS FOR 2 YEARS NOW AND IT'S SLIGHTLY SHITE BUT I CAN'T LET THAT STOP ME FROM GIVING IT AN 8. [Note: Good games can also sometimes get 8s]
9: Really very good indeed. And usually a sequel, or a FPS.
10: Only ever utilised by a Gran Turismo game every decade or the flagship Mario title on a new Nintendo console.

It looks awesome. I expect it's a great idea and slightly flawed like Heavy Rain. But it's good that a mainstream programming house is trying something new, right...?

Other news. Erm... Arkham Asylum followup is rumoured to be more outdoorsy and bigger. Videos supposedly leak of the new Nintendo console, but it smells a bit fishy to me. Gears of War 3 breaks all previous Xbox preordering records. Monster Hunter is coming to the iPhone. PSN Network is back online, sorta, and Sony offer users 2 free games as way of an apology for someone in Tehran now knowing all about your direct debit details.

Who remembers the 3DS eh? Ah... happy memories...

This week I've been a touch busy but I did get one evening in alone where I completed Red Steel 2. Worth a punt if you see it going cheap (it's usually about £17 in HMV with a WiimotePlus, which means 2 player Wii Sports Resort too if you have that). It's far from perfect but when it's good, it's bloody great. It looks the part and the range of moves and adaptability of how you use your abilities is really interesting. Sadly it's pretty repetitive and lacking much replay value, but I've enjoyed it.

I've also managed to guide SUFC to midtable having no money whatsoever on iPhone Football Manager.

Next up, Half Life Episode 2 or Sin and Punishment 2.

You?
