how do you solve a problem like FIFA? (and wednesday football thread)

brusma [Edit] [Delete] 10:53, 1 June '11

alright football threaders, brusma here.

currently following the FIFA congress, as the English FA invited to speak first with their unusually lauadable anti-FIFA stance, followed by a bunch of small corrupt countries' FAs defending FIFA to the hilt. i've always imagined DR Congo and FIFA to be kindred spirits, can't quite put my finger on why.

anyway, for all the FA's complaints, nothing will change at FIFA. why should they? they're onto a good little earner here and no-one's going to do anything meaningful about it, are they? in fact, did the FA ever apologise to BBC and Panorama for what they said in the aftermath of the expose before the 2018 vote? if not, they really really should have.

what should we do? should we do anything? put up and shut up and recognise that if you're going to have corrupt plutocrats, you may as well have them somewhere they'll do relatively little damage to the world? or leave FIFA and do something else?

anyway, the FA's vote to postpone the election got 17 votes for and 170-odd against. the fact that's considered a good result for the FA says it all.

other news: Sam Allardyce appointed as manager of West Ham; i like this move because now i'm less conflicted about disliking west ham - horrible owners, horrible managers, sympathy for the fans

also, Portsmouth have new owners again - don't really know a great deal about them. Young and Downing to leave Villa, who want Mark Hughes as the new manager.

Wednesday being linked with nathan tyson. sounds good, until huddersfield no doubt come in at the last minute offering him £20,000 a week or something stupid

anything else?
