Thursday Gaming Thread

vamos [Edit] [Delete] 10:49, 2 June '11

Well with E3 just around the corner now, gaming news is hotting up.

GTA5: LA expected to drop. As is a new Kojima title.

The 3DS has gone into overdrive this week with new footage of Metal Gear Solid 3(D), FIFA and Sonic Generations all looking rather fine. REvil: Mercenaries also gets a very good first review and deserves a pat on the back for being the first REvil title you can move AND shoot at the same time in.

The 2 other new RE titles look somewhat less thrilling right now, with one jettisoning all the Japanese kitsch traits for some plodding team based action circa 2001. Time will tell...

HOTD: Overkill coming to PS3. Should kick ass, though they need to sort out how varying in difficulty the bosses are. Playing Sin & Punishment 2 has reminded me how much better games used to be for this. Every single fucker gets harder and more varied. Superb stuff.

JUST LOOK AT IT! THIS ISN'T EVEN A GREAT LEVEL!

EDGE magazine has some fascinating previews too. The new Star Wars game sounds like a terrible collision of ideas.

The new Driver title sounds like the polar opposite, mixing old school car chases with a Burnout-esque feature to 'Shift' (jump out of your car when you're about to die and into a nearby random vehicle). The preview code saw the team shifting from juggernauts to police cars via people on their driving tests. Sounded very intriguing.

The new title Child of Eden from the makers of Rez also sounds amazing. You use your hands via Kinect to 'conduct' missiles and save this organic planet. EDGE said it's the most amazing thing they've ever seen and that the interface makes you feel like Lord Vader getting his groove on.

Uncharted 3 sounds like more of the same just streamlined and made even slicker. And in 3D.

Lastly, the Tomb Raider preview sounds almighty. They've started the story at the point where you find out how Lara got her skills and made it sound properly brilliant. The puzzles sounded a step up (maybe it's key that some of the Heavy Rain team are on the job), the engine more fluid and EDGE pretty much say it might make Assassins Creed & Uncharted look a bit dated. Looks truly special from the 2 levels they played.

If those 3 deliver and The Last Guardian is good, then I think I will HAVE to buy a 'next' generation machine ASAP.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO?
