Malware-removal-advice-type-stuff-please

urbanfox [Edit] [Delete] 18:49, 14 June '11

My idiot/technologically-inept father has been had by one of those pop-ups that pretend to be a virus scanner saying your computer is infected (*apparently* whilst looking for tips on fishing the Warwickshire Avon). Not sure why he insists on using Internet Explorer when I've put Firefox (complete with various add-ons to try and keep him out of trouble) on there for him.

It's called Galileo Cleaner and there doesn't seem to be an awful lot of information elsewhere on the net. I've tried scanning it with MalwareBytes, which is about the only advice I can find online, but it just kept crashing (presumably the fault of this program that has appeared).

Any advice on how to get rid of it, or is it system restore time?
Also - mother wants to know if she's safe to put a memory stick in so she can take work and pictures and stuff off it?
