Have you ever found yourself in work thinking “I haven’t seen big Lurch from the mail room for ages”, and then somebody tells you that big Lurch left 4 months ago? Or found yourself out and about, and voiced the opinion that the cocktails in Strata on Queen Street are absolutely lethal, and everybody must have one, only for someone to say “it shut in 2008, you cretin”?

I get a similarly fleeting – yet still jarring - sense of loss when it occurs to me that I’m no longer receiving an email from a certain club night or blog or band, and I subsequently find out that the club night or band or blogger has jacked it in. “Alas poor club night/band/blogger: I read your emails, and fondly recall the time I pitched up to your event in Terrifying Real Life and told you about how I liked your emails, and we would then nod to each other on Sauchiehall Street for the next 3 months, until we couldn’t quite recall how we knew each other anymore, and it all got a bit awkward.”

I mention this phenomenon of “fleeting loss” because over the last few days you’d have been forgiven for thinking that Pin Up Nights had jacked it in! No mailshot, no poster, the website getting repaired etc etc.

Well fear not - it’s just that the combination of summer holidays and 101 music festivals has meant that we couldn’t get a bands line-up we were happy with for this month, and not helping matters was that several Pin Ups chaps have been on their holidays and/or gallivanting about festivals - John D has already met Jarvis Cocker at Primavera (incredibly exciting – for Jarvis), and Paul Smith has now been challenged to find Bono at Glastonbury this weekend!

The result of all this is that at Pin Ups this Friday we have no bands performing, and are simply opening at 11pm for an all killer no filler selection of music.

As a veteran of many a summer noughties night dancing to “Uptown Top Ranking” in the Vic Bar with 2 men and a dog, I am not going to write this and kid on to you that Pin Ups is going to be all rammed and crazy like it tends to be during the autumn and winter months. However we are confident can still get a good turnout, because:

1. In a pricing strategy Lord Sugar himself would be proud of we will be charging only £3 on the door and also offering to readers of this here mailshot £2 entry – just email pinup_nights@yahoo.co.uk with your names (eg “Disco Dave + 3”) and we will stick you on the £2 list;
2. We are also delighted to welcome splendid teacher chums who will be celebrating their end of term by doing a spot of DJing under their DJ name Chair Chair Super Chair; and
3. Before 11pm we will personally be out flyering and tormenting you all with our gregarious chat.

Just to prove to you that we are definitely keeping our eye on the ball, check out what we have already lined up for the autumn:

Friday 30th September: Pin Ups Red Light Night (Guest DJ Frank McAvennie)
Friday 28th October: Pin Up Frights (Guest DJ Carl Barat of a wee band you may have heard of called The Libertines)

Tickets for both these events are onsale from Tickets Scotland now!

Oof! We can hardly wait!

Cheers for reading and hopefully see you on Friday.

John D, Iain OC, James, Niall and Paul x
