1. Be Watchful
a. Watch for the signs – Mt 24.32; Lk 21.20, 29-31; (esp the fig tree sign)
b. Stay awake – don’t sleep – Mt 24.42,44; Lk 21.34-36; 1 Thess 5.4-6; Mt 26.41
2. Be Wise
a. Know and remember the truth: let the Word inform you and give you understanding; don’t be deceived; don’t be shaken or taken by false alarm. Dan 11.33; 12.10; 1 Thess 4.13+; 2 Thess 2.1-3, 15; Lk 21.8
b. Be filled with the Spirit: He alone will give you the wisdom, discernment and understanding you will need; He will bring the truth to your remembrance; He will give you what to say during times of persecution. Mt 25. 1-12 (parable of the 10 virgins); Ephesians 5.15-18
3. Be Faithful
a. Be diligent with the task, calling, vocation He’s given you – Mt 24.46
b. Earn your own living (don’t quit your job in anticipation of His coming) – 2 Thess 3.6-12
c. Live in holiness – 2 Peter 3.11-13
4. Be Strong
a. Stand firm and take action – Dan 11.32-33
b. Endure persecutions – Mt 24.9-13; Lk 21.12-19
5. Be Encouraging
a. Comfort one another with the truth of His second coming – 1 Thess 4.13-18
b. Encourage soberness, faith and hope in each other – 1 Thess 5.4-11
c. Maintain fervent love among yourselves – 1 Peter 4.8
6. Be Ready
a. Flee as necessary – Mt 24-15-21; Lk 21.20-23
b. Speak as necessary – Lk 21.14-15
7. Be Prayerful
a. Praying always that you may have strength to escape all these things – Lk 21.36
b. Pray without ceasing – 1 Thess 5.17 (see context of verses 12-28 – admonitions till He comes)
c. “Watch unto prayer” – 1 Peter 4.7
d. Rev 6.9-11; 5.8 – before the 6th seal is opened; incense on the altar
