The interview question: How do you deal with stress in the workplace?

Enderlin [Edit] [Delete] 23:51, 14 July '11

I have never been for an interview where this question hasn't been asked, often in 2 or 3 various forms and roundabout ways within the same interview.

Now the standard response is somewhere along the lines of *I'd speak to my line manager, air concerns in supervision etc*

But what happens if you don't really get stressed at work, or when you do get stressed, you're just happy to get on with it and it doesn't have an affect on your performance, you just go home and have a cup of tea.

But you can't say that in interview, they ask you to give an example of when you were stressed, what you did to alleviate the stress and failure to do so would mean HE CLEARLY CAN'T COPE WITH ALL THE STRESS HE HASN'T COME TO TERMS WITH.

So you have to make up an example.

But if you give a made up example, imagining a situation when you were stressed and the imaginary coping techniques you employed, if it's not a plausibly stressful example or an iamginary situation worthy of stress they'll think WOW HE GETS PRETTY STRESSED EASILY, HE CLEARLY CAN'T COPE WITH THIS IMAGINARY STRESSFUL SITUATION HE MADE UP.

It's all a bit stressful, tbh.
