I am converting to mac (Mac knowledge required)

Hi there.

It's taken me a while, but I'm fed up of the constant poor reliability of the PC. My Dell is withering and dying after 2 years. Whilst it has actually been okay, it's all of a sudden decided to flop.

Anyway, what a better time to buy a mac when my childrens bonus bonds cash in on my 21st birthday in just over 2 weeks. I don't think I need all the bells and whistles that apple provides, but I'd like to make sure I get something that covers all my needs.

So I need to do: word processing, internet usage, have good photo and music library capabilites so I can be organised, make the odd video etc etc

So basically just basic usage. Will a macbook suffice? Also, what will I need to get as an extra or does it come with all the necassary operating system software already installed and software to let me use my microsoft office documents?

Anyway all info would be awesome. One last thing, I'm going to do it through my uni network to get a discount - how much is this? I've read a couple of people say it's 10% but others say it's as much as 14%.
