Music Social More…

the world continues to piss on the dead through the use of social media.

michael_w [Edit] [Delete] 21:22, 20 July '11

for the lad that was shot in Venezuela.

"Sad and shocking news ... RIP Tom Ossel ... u will be missed ... love and thoughts go out to ur family and friends :( xxx"

1. the grammar and spelling. this is essentially a letter of condolence you're writing here. imagine it as one of the small cards that would get stuck to a bouquet of flowers. and now look at the way you have spelled 'your' and 'you'.

2. sadface. again, imagine you are writing this on a card that gets put on flowers that get rested on a coffin. because that's essentially what's happening. a man has died. someone you clearly care about. they are gone. forever. these are the words you are choosing to represent your grief and express your sorrow for the family he leaves behind.

and you put this...

:(

again...

:(

let me just make this completely clear. a man has died. a mother has lost a son. she will never hear his voice or see him again. and you thought this was appropriate.

:(

no doubt you have probably used that very face to express dismay over a friend not being able to get harry potter tickets at the IMAX. maybe you used that very same face when charlie from work forgot to turn the oven down and burned his quiche. you possibly used it when 'Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip' got cancelled. but now a friend is dead and you used it again.

i really think people need to pull their socks are with tributes on the internet. i'd rather people didn't say anything online, but if you do...for fucksake, make some effort. maybe i'm being a miserable prick and it should just be about the thought behind the tribute, not the mode of expression. but i'm pretty sure people are just idiots.
