Beginners (new Mike Mills film)

marckee [Edit] [Delete] 10:32, 25 July '11

Anyone else seen this? It’s a semi-autobiographical film from the director of Thumbsucker. I thought it was a genuinely touching and tear-inducing film about the relationship between a guy and his dad. Christopher Plummer, Ewan McGregor and Goran Višnji? are all wonderful.

However (and I know that it was the conduit through which the rest of the story was revealed), it’s such a shame that we also had to put up with the scenes of his relationship with a French actress, played by Mélanie Laurent. My god she was a total void. It takes some talent to make her look like a piece of cardboard, but Mills manages it.
