so. i think i might've just had a revelation about it's form that's sort of changed the way i view the book.

basically, without boring you too much about what i've thought about it over the years.....i got a free audio book from audible.co.uk this weekend, and chose 'on the road', as read by matt dillon. this was far from my first choice, but loads of others either had rubbish readers or just didn't suit the form.

anyway....having listened to about half of it, it feels like this is the way the book was meant to be received. i know oratory played a big part in beat culture...and reading on the road often feels like a man struggling to keep up with his thoughts to turn them into writing when he could just fire them off with a machine-gun tongue.

so this feels like the perfect solution. a story to be spoken instead of read.

what do you think? how do you feel about audio books in general?

can they ever capture the written form? does it just depend on the book and the reader.
