Croydon Magistrate first lot of looters in court

msmonipenni [Edit] [Delete] 18:28, 10 August '11

So the first round of looters, who were arrested after the Croydon part of the riots have been appearing in court today and most of the accused seem to be first time offenders, who just happened to take advantage of the looting situation.

The judge has denied bail for every single person. And from the comment of the journalist covering the proceedings, she has never seen a judge be so harsh.

One man, a 39yr old is now going to sit in prison for stealing a cake and a packet of biscuits and another 17yr old kid has been remanded for stealing a packet of gum.

Part of me understands the reason for being harsh, but do you think this is going to cause problems with the prisons and overcrowding? Do you think no bail was the right decision?
