Redundancy (Employment Law-centric)

sadballadman [Edit] [Delete] 21:23, 19 August '11

I think some of you on here may know a little about the above and might be able to help me with a question.
I have been doing a job for a firm for 10 years, been with the firm in total 13 years. I do a very specific role and have a specific profile.
After advising us that there would be minimal changes to our job we have now found out that there's a restructure going on. In this restructure my role is going to be gone. I have been given 2 choices.
1) Apply for a new role that's been created which a small part of my current job is being absorbed into, minimal places with no guarentee of getting on the team.
2) If I fail in the above or do not apply I will be automatically placed in another role that barely has anything to do with my current role and is pile of shit job that i did 10 years ago and do not want to do again.
Now apparently if I do not apply for option 1 and decline option 2 I will be effectively resigning as there is no redundancy on offer. Can they do this? Should there also be an option for redundancy as my role is no longer there?
Mental health comes into this as well, as I'm already on medication and my psychiatrist wants to put my medication up as my anxiety / depression has been really bad recently.
Other people I have spoke to say I should be entitled to redundancy and I plan on seeing Citizens Advice but wondered if anyone knew a bit about it.
