My neighbour the lunatic
Yep it's one of those threads about OTHER PEOPLE being completely unreasonable compared to our good selves.
So I recently moved in somewhere new. Its a house split into two flats. The woman upstairs used to own the whole house, then split it into two flats and gave one to her daughter. It was later sold and I now rent it.
Here are my interactions with her so far:
1. Moving day. I say hi in the front garden, she only acknowledges me by saying: these boxes (*points to collapsed cardboard boxes) what are you doing with them. Me: They're not mine so... Her: So they just left them there then? Me: *shrugs* I've literally just arrived. Her RIGHT! *storms off*
2. I hear her coming in one day so I go out and ask her if she knows why my key to the front door (shared door) isn't working from the inside. It works from the outside, but I can't get out if its locked. She points out a key on a hook in the hallway which is always there if I need it. Fine. Good. Thanks. She asks for my email address - I give it to her.
3. The gf goes upstairs one day to say: that yellow plastic box in the front yard is for our veg box delivery, please don't throw it onto the street again.
Her: OK.
GF: I said they can ring your bell if we're not in if that's OK?
Her: Let me explain something to you - we have got absolutely NOTHING to do with that flat downstairs.
OK, bit fucking rude but there you go nevermind not the end of the world.
4. She knocks on our door to say that just to let me know she is having someone round to re-do the windows tomorrow. *The* windows. Fine.
5. About a week later I wake up ill on a Monday morning at 9am to find her and a builder in my back yard, directly outside my bedroom window. She's pointing out work that needs doing. When they see me she just says to him: Oh I told them you were coming, and carries on.
She then goes away for a week and I don't get a chance to talk to her about it. I email my landlady to let her know that some work is being done downstairs. She emails back saying: oh yeah, she (upstairs) is the freeholder so that's her responsibility. Sorry she is mad. [She had warned us of this fact at least].
6. On hearing her come home one day I go upstairs to talk to her about the windows.
Her: Its not a good time [she was dressed in black so I think, maybe she's just been to a funeral].
Me: OK, are you around tomoro?
Her: Maybe. What's wrong with the windows anyway?
Me: Nothing's wrong with them I just wanted to ask you about them.
Her: OK well can you ask me tomorrow?
Me: Fine.
I don't then get a chance to talk to her until...
7. Last night I hear banging and shrieking coming from upstairs. We go up. Its a mouse. We catch it (it was nearly dead). She says they used to have a cat but dont want to get another.
She basically tells us to get a cat. We say we'll think about it. She says three or four times in the conversation: you should get a cat.
I tell her our landlady is having a builder round tomoro to do some jobs. We talk about the windows. She says three or four times: I have got NOTHING to do with that flat downstairs.
Whatever, you're not making any sense, and I'm over the annoyance of you being in my garden now, can't be bothered with this. Good night.
8. Builder is round there this morning. I've left him a key for the flat (our door) and told him about the key on the hook to get out of the main door. He doesn't need the yale key lock as he's not going anywhere and won't need to get back in.
I get a call at work a couple of hours later. He tells me that he needed to go out and asked if she would let him back in before he went. She told him, that she had NOTHING to do with that flat downstairs, and that she wouldn't do anything for him.
Him: Fine. He then hears her go out and lock the front door. He finishes his work, and goes to leave, but the front door key has gone from the hook and he can't get out.
So I had to go all the way home from work to let him out.
What a fucking lunatic.
