After-the-event-insurance

the_bread_museum [Edit] [Delete] 10:02, 20 November '13

I'm pursuing a claim against a motorist who knocked me off my bike.

The lawyers so far have been really good and helpful. But I have a question for any legally-minded folk on here.

Is it worth taking after-the-event insurance? The lawyer recommended it, but I get the sense that she recommended it as a matter of routine, so I couldn't complain that I wasn't aware of the risks should I lose my claim and end up liable for the other dude's costs.

I reckon I'd sleep better knowing that even if I lost I won't get a massive legal bill, but most people have told me it's pointless, because the most probable outcome is that the other guy's insurance company will make a settlement offer and it won't go to court.

Should I take it anyway or am I just paying to cover myself against something that probably won't happen?

Many thanks for the free legal advice. I am happy to do an hour's proof-reading/copy-editing in return for anyone who helps.
