a man just approached me on the street

incandenza_ [Edit] [Delete] 16:09, 24 September '14

specifically Market Street (Manchester). he asked if I'd sell him my Sambas (Adidas). my weathered, worn-soled, year-old Sambas which also smell of old shoe (obviously).

I fixed him with a bemused look, turned him down because that my shoes weren't worth selling and I needed them (for continuing to walk outside). he offered £40, but I declined.

made a beeline for somewhere else, and he came after me. whipped out a business card, although it was made out of paper, so I guess you couldn't really call it a card, as such. told me he ran a vintage shop.

I really tried to politely make my excuses, but he upped his offer to £50, then as I sped up, £60. I could go see if there were adequate replacements in a shoe shop, he'd wait.

went in [big shoe chain shop], picked out some brand new Sambas. agreed the sale with the guy, gave him the shoes off my feet when he duly handed over the money. bought some new shoes, went home.

has this happened to anybody else? what...what is this? is this a thing?
