This isn't the set up for a joke i'm afraid, but a genuine question.

Apart from tightening up all the screws (which i've tried and has had minimal effect), would putting talcum powder in the joins/gaps where the wood rubs (and therefore where the noise comes from) make a difference? I can't work out if this is idiotic or genius.
