I passed my motorbike test

GoatmeatMF [Edit] [Delete] 15:26, 3 March '15

as promised, here is a nice boring story about me, called 'I Passed My Motorbike Test', by goatmeatmf

What a crazy week that was. 5 days of training and the test day yesterday. Probably the hardest thing I have ever done in terms of sustained concentration and contending with the full force of the elements. I have never been so cold or so wet as when I was riding up and down the A23 in zero-visibility sheet ice-rain for an hour at 80 miles an hour, clinging on for dear life.

One time I got separated from the trainer and other student. I was in the lead, driving through pouring rain. Headset wasn’t working and the last thing I heard was “continue on the A27”. So I did. From Hangleton, past Hove…started to lose sight of them behind me as they dropped back because the other student was pretty slow. I held back on my speed but kept going in radio silence waiting for them to catch me up. They never did, even by the time I got to Lewes. So I pulled over in a layby and phoned in. They were in Burgess Hill. Trainer came to get me and was a bit pissed off, but was actually fine about it because I had already told him my headset wasn’t working, so he had to accept it. He took the lead back to Burgess Hill and punished me by going insanely fast. Had to go 90mph to keep up with him on the A27, then sweating with fear round all these windy country lanes. I nearly went off the road trying to keep up at one point.

Good story? It was kind of like that every day for 5 days, without the getting lost. That was only one day. And I wasn’t really lost, just went 15 miles the wrong way.

Passed with one minor fault, which was a bit galling because obvs I’d have liked a clean sheet. It was right at the end as well. Bummer.

Did my three high speed manoeuvres nice and fast. In a purpose built football-pitch sized piece of tarmac, had to drive round a big U-turn then accelerate through a speed trap at least 30mph.
Controlled stop – 34 mph
Emergency stop – 34mph
Avoidance manoeuvre – 34mph

Nailed the consistency. No bonus points though.

tl;dr

Everyone should do it, it was well fun. And I have a motorbike license as a bonus.

Now, what bike should I get?
