I'm about to go travelling for three weeks, and I just bought a Kindle tablet thing. Are there any properly brilliant novels from this century that I must read?

My favourite authors are Henry Miller, Jeanette Winterson, and Colette. So I want some goddamn beautiful prose, although I'm happy for it to be spun through an exciting story. My first Kindle purchase (earlier today) was Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, and I'm genuinely a little dumbstruck by how badly it's written. Please advise.
