Kaiser Chiefs: To Go Top 20?
sean by Sean Adams November 4th, 2004
Kaiser Chiefs: Top of the Pops? We apologise from the outset if this seems like trumpet blowing.

Unless you have the gun-hoe... mmmm donuts, brain of George Bush, you may remember back in May we released a single by a new band called the Kaiser Chiefs on our Drowned in Sound label. And now, their follow-up single, which was released on Monday on CD and limited edition signed 7" 'I Predict a Riot' is set to go Top 20. It's currently sitting very pretty at 15 in the mid week charts.

The roller coaster ride began when we put them on last October at our co-run night with Club Fandango down at the less than glam, Dublin Castle in Camden Town. A winter passed. They played lotsa gigs. Did a DiS tour with The Koreans and Chikinki. Released their debut single which NME made Single of the Week. All 1,500 copies sold out pretty much everywhere by the Thursday. Went into the pop charts at 66. Copies started appearing on eBay for silly money. Then they toured with The Ordinary Boys not once, but twice whilst fighting off various album deals and eventually decided to go with B-Unique. Went to Russia to play a festival and do an NME radar piece. Toured some more. Went into the studio with Stephen Street (Blur, Idlewild, Smiths). Played last week at Brixton Academy with Franz Ferdinand. Single to go top 20. Our congrats go out to the band and all involved. So, what comes next?

Next, Ricky will be appearing on BBC 6Music Breakfast Show with Phil Jupitus on Friday 9am. He's the guest/co-presenter for the last hour!

And then they play these gigs:

25 Nov Hull University w/Kasabian
10 Dec London Barfly* (and PIGS DJ's afterwards)
11 Dec Wolverhampton Little Civic*
12 Dec Manchester Night & Day*
13 Dec Leeds Cockpit*
18 Dec Glasgow SECC w/Franz Ferdinand
19 Dec Glasgow SECC w/Franz Ferdinand

* = plus special guests The Beat Up

You can't get hold of 'Oh My God' (DiS0003) on cd anymore (please stop mailing us, we only have two copies of it ourselves!) but you can download the track in the original form from the Warchild website here and all monies goto chairidy.

What's next for DiS Recordings? Here is our upcoming release schedule...

Nov 1st thisGIRL Single 'Master Blaster' / 'Angel'
Nov 15th Martha Wainwright EP 'Blo*dy Mother F*cking A*shole'
Jan 24th Redjetson Debut Album 'New General Catalogue'
