The Rumours are true, Urusei Yatsura Split!
mpimm by Matthew Pimm June 9th, 2001

After many rumours of an impending split, Urusei Yatsura have sadly confirmed these to be true with the following statement on their official website.

"You have probably heard rumours about a U.Y. split and it is with real sadness that we have to confirm that Urusei Yatsura has disbanded. It is not easy being a full-time band and many factors have contributed to our decision.

Graham is now working on solo material while Ian, Elaine and Fergus are to continue working together under a different name. None of us felt it appropriate for any of us to continue using the name Urusei Yatsura since we think it is a unique band that depended on all our contributions.

We feel our three albums, numerous singles and other releases are a great achievement and a triumph over the capriciousness of the music industry. We would like to thank everyone who has enjoyed our songs, shown support or worked with us over the past few years. The affection and encouragement we received means a great deal to us and sustained us through difficult times. We hope you can take as much pleasure in all our future releases. In the meantime listen to the music and remember the great gigs. We still love you and please please don't ever get into Toploader.

It's been a fucking blast.

Love Urusei Yatsura"

Over the 9 years they have been together they have treated us lots a great records and cool gigs. It's sad that they are no more but now they will be taking on the pop industry on 2 fronts with Graham's and Ian, Elaine + Fergus's new projects.

Urusei Yatsura is dead, long live Urusei Yatsura
