Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails have come to the end of their current deal with Interscope Records, paving the way for them to 'do a Radiohead'.
Making the announcement via their official website, Reznor confirmed that the band were now free agents and hinted at a more direct business relationship between his act and its fans.
"I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate."
Punctuation? Appropriate? No? Reznor has a history of urging fans to either bypass or directly screw his own label. Last month he was filmed at a show in Sydney, telling the audience to "steal" the band's latest record.
The band, which Reznor recently claimed would be shorn of its other members, will make an announcement soon on their plans for a new record.
And yes, every other story today is going to be about Radiohead. Sit tight and ride it out.
