A Week in Drowned in Sound: 28/03/08
TheBoyDeadly by TheBoyDeadly March 28th, 2008

A truncated intro for a truncated week - you, Londoner, come to this show. We've got Lakes and Who Owns Death TV and Beestung Lips, all for free this Saturday (29 Mar), at Notting Hill Arts Club. Come along, DiScover, drink cheap, have a great Saturday, basically.

We're putting on a show in association with Vice, too - YACHT, AKA ex-Blow man Jona Bechtolt, will be at the Old Blue Last in east London on the 16th of July. More details here, for ticket info it's to DiS head honch Mike Diver:

"Tickets for the show are £4 – you can reserve your place at the gig by e-mailing me on mike dot diver at drownedinsound dot com, writing ‘YACHT tickets’ in the subject line and giving me full names for all attendees. You can then simply pay on the door. DiS has a limit on tickets, so it’s first come, first served; any spares will be sold on the door along with tickets of people who’ve not made it down. Doors are at 8pm – I advise an early arrival!"

Thanks Mike. Looking back, these last few days have seen us bombarded with festival news, as the season gears up for another year. Almost to the point that we've become sick of it, even. Almost - Primavera Sound remains the glimmering beacon, but confirmations this week of My Bloody Valentine, Mystery Jets, Diplo, Telepathe and No Age all have us glowing. Then there's those other acts - Radiohead, Oasis, Morrissey. Find all the latest additions in our news section.

Reviews-wise, Italians Do It Better - home to such greatness as Chromatics and Glass Candy - put out the debut double-A side from Invisible Conga People and scooped single of the week, while the aforementioned Mystery Jets and This Will Destroy You struck gold with respective 9/10 reviews.

Conversations with Portishead, Radiohead, Death Cab For Cutie and the Italians Do It Better crew should all surface next week, so for now you'll have to gorge yourselves on returning Nashville fiends Be Your Own Pet, the brilliantly morose Malcolm Middleton and We Are Scientists. We also found time to chair a debate on the significance of the emo-bashing widespread across Latin America at the moment. Tasty and nutritious, or some such shit.

See you in Notting Hill tomorrow, we hope - ask for Kev Kharas, he'll buy you a drink and look after you, as only a Persian can.
