Panda Bear discusses new 'darker' solo record
JoeDiddly by Luke Slater November 24th, 2009

It's not easy being in Animal Collective, especially if your name happens to be Panda Bear, or Noah Lennox, to give him his birth name. Not only do you have the burden of producing such enchanting and brilliant music to your adoring fans both on record and live, you also carry the weight of following up one of the finest albums of 2007 with Person Pitch. He's practically the indieverse's Christian.

This new album was discussed in moderate to fair length over at Pedestrian.TV, which you are highly recommended to visit but, in traditional style, we're going to post the best bits below. Digestible.

He said:

"The rhythms are really basic and kind of raw and simple and are electronic. It's not live instrumentation, I’ve been playing guitar but I feed it through the same thing that the sequences are on. It’s a very electronic sound and very voice heavy. A simple arrangement of drums, the guitar and singing. Really there are only two or three elements to every song. It’s pretty raw sounding for better for worse."

Hmmm, 'raw' is one word you wouldn't use to describe Person Pitch. 'Voice heavy' probably would be, though, as would 'simple arrangements'.

"The tone is a lot darker and it sounds sort of dramatic or romantic to me. But I’m in still in the thick of the thing so it’s really tough to be objective at this point. So I have no idea, but hopefully people like it. I hope its good."

C'mon, have faith in your own work, Noah! You're a genius! A genius! That's all you're getting for now, click your way over to Pedestrian.tv to get the full low-down.
