This week’s albums: 11/01/10
lukowski by Andrzej Lukowski January 11th, 2010

Oh hi there! So by way of a new public service for 2010, we'll be offering a rough guide to every week’s album releases, filtered through a DiS type lens. Maybe as time goes on this feature will acquire a nice name; for now, one is not forthcoming. Also please note this is based on UK release dates, innit, and in alphabetical order. You can listen to all of the available albums via Spotify by clicking here. ---

Delphic – Acolyte

Okay, so short of renaming themselves We Would Totally Do The BBC Sound Of 2010, the Manchester quartet could scarcely have released their album at a better time to get nice positions in those, um, awards that take place at the start of the year these days. But as electro indie goes, this is pretty top drawer stuff, yeah?

Adam Green – Minor Love

Belated Juno-related success for the Moldy Peaches hasn’t quite given Green’s latest the profile it deserves. Where’s bloody Cera, the one time you actually need him?

The Irrepressibles – Mirror Mirror

Slightly ominous ‘10 piece performance orchestra’ unleash their broadsheet-rated debut upon the unsuspecting world. Sort of good, if you’re the type of person who suspects ‘cabaret’ is better than ‘music’.

Martyn

Martyn – Fabric 50

Accomplished if possibly not revelatory mix from the Dutchest man in dubstep.

Read Noel Gardner’s 7/10 review HERE.

The Projects – Words of Love Broadcast In Code Entertainingly chewy electro-poppery from Ladytron side project. Review very much IN THE WORKS.

OK Go

OK Go – Of the Blue Colour of the Sky

Curious but not uncompelling power pop/sex funk hybrid from the YouTube SENSATIONS.

Listen/buy via the magic of we7 HERE.

Vampire

Vampire Weekend – Contra

Ezra and chums return with possibly the most downbeat Tex Mex-R’n’B album you’ll hear this month.

Read Andrzej Lukowski’s slightly waffly 6/10 review HERE.

Enjoy the band’s own track by track HERE.

Whitefield

The Whitefield Brothers – Earthology

Faintly brainmelting German funk ensemble make faintly brainmelting funk that doesn’t sound very German.

Er yes, so in conclusion, there wasn’t much out this week. If you’re a PR or somesuch and you had an album out and it didn’t get mentioned, please drop me an email at andrzej@drownedinsound.com and we make sure it NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN.
