St. Vincent, Liars + Os Mutantes join Beck's Record Club
JoeDiddly by Luke Slater March 11th, 2010

I've often wondered, as the days and nights roll by seemingly aimless in their end and cause, what Beck Hansen gets up to in his spare time. With the advent of his Record Club, it at least satisfies my curiosity to some degree. Now, this Record Club isn't like a conventional record club, where music freaks get together and swap records and their thoughts on such. No. It's significantly better than that.

Here's what it says on Beck's website

”Record Club is an informal meeting of various musicians to record an album in a day. The album chosen to be reinterpreted is used as a framework. Nothing is rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track is put up here once a week. The songs are rough renditions, often first takes that document what happened over the course of a day as opposed to a polished rendering. There is no intention to 'add to' the original work or attempt to recreate the power of the original recording. Only to play music and document what happens.”

Which is most excellent, and good for us, The Fans. In the past there's been a re-recording of The Velvet Underground's record with Nico by Nigel Godrich as well as Feist and Jamie Lidell's reimagining of Skip Spence's Oar. The latest edition, which is yet to be published, will feature no less than St. Vincent, Os Mutantes, and Liars in an unholy trinity. We know this because Miss Clark/Vincent, posted so on her Twitter account, saying:

“Did a Record Club record with Beck and Liars and Os Mutantes in LA last week! It will be online soonish. Serious fun”

That and we read it on Pitchfork. We may be fractionally late on this one, but our website seemingly disappeared from the hours of 1500 to 1700 this afternoon, which kind of makes it difficult to publish anything. No idea what album they recorded together but, really, would you expect anything less than A+++, whatever it is?!

So stay tuned for any further updates. Hopefully it'll go up next month. Ears = peeled.
