James Murphy is such a bloody tease, isn't he? Well, either that or the music press read far too much into his throwaway statements. Oh, here we go again! There was that time last year when he was chucking around statements indicating that the current LCD Soundsystem album would be the last and one last tour etc. etc. but it isn't all dead. Oh no.
Murphy revealed this in an interview with The Quietus, saying:
"For me, it's not the end of the band, it's the end of the band being a professional entity - like a professional rock band that makes albums and videos and tours and all that stuff."
He added:
"We'll still make some music, but playing together is such a Herculean thing because everyone lives in different parts of the world and has lives. But we'll still be making LCD Soundsystem music and stuff; we just need to go back and have it be a part of our lives rather than our whole lives."
But what does it all mean? Will there be another LP? Perhaps not, but as he said if he wanted to start the band up he could just do that. Which seems fair enough. He said:
"It should be the last one. Yeah, I'll still do music. We might even make an album. I'm just getting off of the professional album making train. I'm not counting anything out other than touring professionally."
Don't hold your breath about either, in fairness.
