Following up on the media flurry over the incident and his release without charge on $1m bail, Phil Spector now insists that the 40-year-old B-movie actress died "in a bizarre act of suicide", a conclusion that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department has ruled out, firmly standing by the claim that Lana Clarkson's death was "a criminal act" .
Speaking to the US edition of Esquire magazine he continued: "I have no idea why. I never knew her, never even saw her before that night. I didn't do anything wrong... if they had a case, I'd be sitting in jail right now. I don't know where or how she got the gun ... There's no case. She killed herself."
After the bail posting Phil Spector's solicitor said he believes his client will be cleared following an investigation, other people have commented that it was only a matter of time before he shot someone. Police have said that it could continue for (more) months as "complex forensic tests are carried out". The investigation continues.
