Bisexuality Sells - 'He's/She's No.1' is here to confuse you
oappleby by Ollie Appleby June 18th, 2003
The soon to be well known (if a certain weekly mailing list get a hold of them) Scandinavian boy band Bobby release what is being hailed as 'the world's first bi-sexual song' as a free download...

No, despite mounting evidence to the contary, we haven't turned into Popbitch, although we just had to pass this one on...

The Swedish pop sensation Bobby, a band with real singles out in their home nation and everything, are "one of the most talented all male bands to come out of Sweden since The Hives" and both "wildly attractive" and "camp as a row of tents". The band consists of Torben, Lars and Julle who not only write all their own songs but also design much of their distinctive and outrageous wardrobe. So now you know.

Anyway, 'He's/She's No.1', the so called "world's first bi-sexual song", recorded using "revolutionary DI technology", is available worldwide free of charge (and as a big 31MB file) at www.digimpro.com. The DI technology is something to do with using 'digital improvisation' format to produce "almost infinite variations of the same track. It is the perfect tool for the music addict."

As Torben says about the track: "When George Michael sang 'Last Christmas I gave you my heart' it appeared that he was singing to a woman, we now all know that may not have been the case. Having access to DI technology enabled us to record both "he" and "she" versions of the song onto the same track. It's our expression of the fact that love is love regardless of gender."

Yeah... me too. As for 'the world's first bi-sexual song' are they aware of the number of people who thought that Brian Molko was a girl the first time they saw the 'Nancy Boy' video/TOTP appearance?

In other headline grabbing news, the recent announcement that the Toto man is to become the Toto woman was reviled to be (as expected)false by the band; it was all a joke that went a bit too far resulting with transgender groups getting their knickers/boxers in a twist when the band made comments that he was too ugly to get the chop and suchlike.

Sean Lennon once claimed he'd been to "the first bisexual summercamp" as a child and Dave Grohl is well known for his cross dressing activities. With proper dyke pop stars Tatu in the forefront of the media and even old men like Bowie having done the gender bending makeup thing decades ago, is this track really anything new or exciting at this point?

DiScuss:Track good/bad? Technology any cop? 'Almost infinite' not enough for you? And what are Placebo going to do now?
