Love Music, Hate Racism? Get the album...
holliy by holliy September 29th, 2003

The Anti Nazi League’s first ever self-release will appear on October 13th in the form of a 17-track compilation album.

The ANL’s musical face, Love Music, Hate Racism, has organised tours, festivals and club nights, and is now branching out into releases. This debut offering was put together with the help of Doves, Basement Jaxx, The Bees and Coldcut, and features exclusive tracks from Sugababes, Basement Jaxx, Turin Brakes, The Bees and many more.

LMHR was launched last year at an all-day outdoor gig in Manchester, headlined by Doves and Ms Dynamite. All profits from the compilation will go to helping LMHR in their goals of standing against and providing an alternative to the BNP and their current rise in popularity: “to build a mass movement around music, turning passive anti-racism into active anti-fascism”.

Love Music, Hate Racism is the 21st-century answer to the 1970’s Rock Against Racism movement, which was formed as a defiance of the rising National Front and which was supported by punk band such as the Clash, Sham 69 and X-Ray Spex alongside reggae bands Steel Pulse and Misty in Roots. RAR played a large part in raising consciousness among their fans of the true nature of neo-fascist parties in the 70s, and the Love Music, Hate Racism movement aims to do the same thing with the BNP today.

From the press release: The fact is that the nazi BNP have no music, they are anti-music. They have no culture. They have nothing to offer except lies, violence and race hatred. And the vision of an all-white Britain kept "pure" by terror and intimidation.

We live a rich, buzzing, dynamic world of multi-racial music. [The BNP] have nothing except empty heads, empty hearts and empty souls. And if they ever again come to power they will once again try to re-make the world in their own sterile image.

That’s why we put this record together. We’ve stopped them before and we’ll stop them again.

And we’ll have a fucking great time doing it.
