Dappled Cities - Zounds

Review by Robert Cooke

Zounds sounds like a compilation that charts all of the slightly awkward musical trends that have soiled the music press over the last five years.»

sydney, australia's dappled cities are ambitious. they make widescreen music full of big gestures and sweeping melodies, and on this, their third album, they sound bigger than ever. credit this partially to the addition of a small string section on a few songs, but far more to keyboardist ned cooke asserting himself at the heart of the band's sound. it's an album that really shows the growth and depth of dappled cities. 'zounds' is both grand and emotive and full of euphoric melodies and unique story-telling. for fans of animal collective, sunset rubdown or the shins.
