Barbarossa - Bloodlines

Review by Aaron Lavery

A great example of someone following their musical instincts into new areas and finding success, Bloodlines is also a highlight of the year so far.»

'Bloodlines' is the debut Memphis Industries release from Barbarossa. Built around Mathé's tender, understated vocals as well as a musical palette that takes in distorting vintage synths, delicate drum machine figures and at times anthemic doses of reverb, this is a subtle, minimal, intelligent take on folk music. Organic, eclectic, delicate, smart; these are all words that could be used to describe this album, which effortlessly resists singer-songwriter cliches, feeling as honest and modern a take on the troubadour tradition as we've heard all year.
