It's been almost a full year since Williams' former band The Civil Wars broke up, and since then the singer / songwriter has been hard at work. Williams describes Venus as an emergence from the ashes of her former band. No longer content to just conjure the antique grace of some mythic, bygone world, Williams was intent to actually pierce the veil of metaphor and an imagined history and tell a more honest, human story of one woman's journey out of darkness.
