Panda Bear single release date confirmed, watch performance at Primavera

News by Luke Slater

In many ways it's a good thing that the next Panda Bear record has been three years in the making. Obviously Noah Lennox has been mad busy with Animal Collective gallivanting off round much of the world, but letting the songs stew will hopefully lead to him producing the most tender and delicious chunks of musical wonderment. Not to overstate things, you understand. »

Watch: HEALTH - 'USA BOYS'

News by Luke Slater

The last video from California noise-merchants HEALTH was pretty damn grim. Seeing a genital area damaged so badly can never be a good thing. Still, it offered an unusual take on the more traditional form of Red Riding Hood, and one we can be moderately thankful for.»

Listen: Stream entire Villagers album Becoming A Jackal

News by Luke Slater

I know, I know, I know. We said we wouldn't keep banging on about Conor O'Brien a.k.a Villagers. But we lied. Not to mislead you. It was perhaps an empty promise. You probably should have recognised this. »

Crystal Fighters announce debut album, offer free download

News by Luke Slater

It's long been our view that there are far too many bands whose nameincludes the world 'Crystal'. Seriously, it's an epidemic. Castles, Stilts, Antlers. Too many, man, too many. Anyway, Crystal Fighters are another band to be added to that ever-extending list and today they announced details of their debut album.»

Devo to feature in 100th episode of Futurama

News by Luke Slater

We're surely now accustomed to some of our favourite bands appearing in some of Matt Groening's animated TV shows, and it's not surprising as the man has exceptional taste, as demonstrated by the two ATP Festivals he's curated in his time. »

Fresh from playing a free show to some 40,000 people at London's Finsbury Park, Rage Against The Machine have said that new material and indeed another record is a possibility. Their last studio record, Renegades was released in 2000 and their most recent record of original material was 1999's The Battle Of Los Angeles. »

News by Luke Slater

Yes, the World Cup of Football is fast approaching. It all kicks off on Friday. If you're interested in this sort of activity then you'll be well aware of this information already. If you're not then the chances are the level of interest around it will be minimal, so no harm done. »

News by Luke Slater

We're going to keep banging on about Villagers, at least for a little while the debut album Becoming A Jackal is a mightily strong record, debut or otherwise. Watch: Mystery Jets - 'Dreaming Of Another World'

News by Luke Slater

We'll be honest. What we've heard from Mystery Jets new record so far has been at least some of the way there to blowing us away. When the single - 'Flash A Hungry Smile' - dropped a while back, that is exactly what we did. And boy were were hungry, specifically for more from the lads. LADS. »

Festival News Round-Up #13

News by Luke Slater

Number 13. Unlucky for some, including me, whose computer crashed about 50 times in the writing of this piece. Still, here are the relatively few goings on in the festival world from the UK and slightly further beyond, like Norway and Ireland.»

New Les Savy Fav album in September?

News by Luke Slater

It was 2007, we had a Labour government and Twitter hadn't fully taken hold of the nation's consciousness just yet. That was when Les Savy Fav released their most recent album, Let's Stay Friends, but the good news today is that there's a new one on the way, hopefully sooner rather than later, too.»

DiS meets Vince Power

In Depth by Luke Slater

Vince Power is described as "the godfather of gigs" on his own VPMG website. You might think that moniker is a tad overstated but really it's not far from the truth, if away from it at all. Having founded the Mean Fiddler in 1982, upon buying a single mus»

Watch: Neon Indian - 'Sleep Paralysist'

News by Luke Slater

Back in March the artist known as Neon Indian gave away a free mp3 of a new track called 'Sleep Paralysist'. It was one of the first tracks released since Psychic Chasms came out - in the previous year. Now there's a video for the track, and you can watch it below. It's certainly colourful and full of something. Not quite scary but unnerving. I can't quite put my finger on it. Anyway, enough prattling, get on with the sights:»

Wilco sponsor baseball teams, Coldplay do cricket

News by Luke Slater

American indie-rockers Wilco are doing their bit for the local community as they've just started sponsoring two little league Baseball teams in America. How very kind of them. Now, I'm no expert, but I think that little league equates to youth baseball or something. I am just guessing, though, I'd assume it's not a league for the vertically challenged (Via Pitchfork).»

Supergroup Apparatjik make available free EP

News by Luke Slater

A little while ago a group called Apparatjik appeared. Who could this be? Well, it is a supergroup, and a proper one, not like those crappy indie ones you see labelled as such from time to time. In their number are Jonas Bjerre of Mew, Guy Berryman of Coldplay, Magne Furuholmen of aHa and Martin Terefe. »

Radiohead's Phil Selway to release debut solo album

News by Luke Slater

Right. Stop it. That's enough with the drummer jokes. Phil Selway, the man who beats the skins amongst other things in indie giants Radiohead, will release his debut solo album in August. The record is called Familial and will come out through Bella Union, with the date for that being August 30, so still a while to go yet.»

Listen: Stream the whole of Twilight: Eclipse OST ft. new Battles song

News by Luke Slater

The soundtrack to the new movie in the ever-extending Twilight franchise, Eclipse, reads like a who's who of current indie bands and artists, much like its predecessors. With new and original tracks from Muse, Metric, The Black Keys and a duet between Beck and Bat For Lashes, it means there is at least something to like about the film.»

News by Luke Slater

Hola! Nuevo El Guincho! Hoy! Etc. Yesterday the Canarian psych--pop-wave master announced that he'd be releasing a new series of EPs, with a slight difference. They'd be EPs of covers. With even more of a difference - each EP would be reinterpretations and reworkings of traditional and standard South American songs, as well as a few lost ones.»

London's Fabric up for sale

News by Luke Slater

After a few weeks of speculation about London superclub Fabric going into administration, closing, not closing, making all their staff redundant and a few other related issues, we've now got something concrete and whilst it isn't exactly good news, there is a ray of hope in there, somewhere. »

Watch: run,WALK! - 'Back Of My Mind'

News by Luke Slater

We received this video from run,WALK in an e-mail a few days ago, but didn't get round to listening to it or watching it until earlier this morning. We liked it. Both the video and the song, most of all, however, the brutal sounds coming from what looks like just one guitar. It says everything that needs to be said in approximately two-and-two-third minutes. Short, but not particularly sweet.»
