Well in this case you'll be delighted by this truly epic guide to the band's 20/21-track OPUS Field Music (Measure)... and IN A TWIST the brothers Brewis will be offering their thoughts not on their own songs, but each others'... STRAP YOURSELVES IN, PEOPLE.»

Blur - No Distance Left to Run

Review by Andrzej Lukowski

There are still plenty of magic moments – notably Alex James going slowly mad filming a series of foreign TV idents – but in many ways No Distance Left To Run’s chief strength is the watchability with which it compiles familiar anecdotes, rather than adding anything new to the Blur saga.»

Yeasayer's track-by-track guide to Odd Blood

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

Okay, you’ve heard Yeasayer’s second set, Odd Blood, but are you entirely sure what the band are harping on about? The band’s Anand Wilder provides some clues to their future-pop odyssey with this here track by track guide.»

This week’s albums ft Massive Attack, Pantha du Prince and Built to Spill

News by Andrzej Lukowski

Salut! It is Monday once more, which literally only means one thing – the time has finally come when you can listen to DiS’s albums of the week via the magic of some small electronic boxes, mostly designed by the guys’n’dolls at We7. »

Yeasayer - Odd Blood

Review by Andrzej Lukowski

Having given us time to prepare for the fact they’re quite the different band from All Hour Cymbals, Yeasayer Mk II have also given us time to realise that Odd Blood probably isn’t likely to go down as their defining statement, at least, not if they’re now scrapping at the genius table with the similarly influenced of Montreal and Dirty Projectors. »

This week’s albums ft Los Campesinos!, Hot Chip and Midlake

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

So after last week’s album releases list turned into a somewhat unwieldy 30+ records monster, we’re refining this feature to focus on our albums of the week. Sorry those who liked the old format, but it was getting A Bit Out Of Hand.»

The Soft Pack - The Soft Pack

Review by Andrzej Lukowski

Sometimes you need to believe a scene or movement will save your life. Other times, there’s nothing wrong being quietly blown away by a record like The Soft Pack.»

This week’s albums ft Four Tet, Beach House and The Magnetic Fields

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

Aloha! Here are some records that – in the ever-shifting world of indie release dates – could be deemed to be out today, January 25th, 2010. No Spotify list this week, alas, as virtually nothing here is on it. Reviews of many of the rest of these records to come in next couple of days - weee!»

Beach House - Teen Dream

Review by Andrzej Lukowski

Sedate of pace, warm and soulful of texture, gentle of volume, and with a slightly background-ish quality that’s frequently punctured by the magic of singer Victoria Legrand’s almost supernaturally improved larynx; Teen Dream is a comforting record, not a demanding one, and there’s no shame in that. »

Owen Pallett's track-by-track guide to Heartland

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

Wondering what the hell all this business about 'Lewis' and 'Spectrum' is on Owen Pallett's new opus Heartland is? Yeah, well this track by track guide won't exactly tell you, but fascinating stuff nonetheless, plus you're likely to learn at least one new word.»

This week’s albums ft These New Puritans, Eels and Lostprophets

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

Salutations! To some, January 18 will be known as the most depressing day of this year). But according to our crack reviewing team, the (admittedly limited number of) releases out this week were basically all great. Woo. AND THESE ARE THEY, COMPLETE WIT»

This week’s albums: 11/01/10

News by Andrzej Lukowski

Oh hi there! So by way of a new public service for 2010, we'll be offering a rough guide to every week’s album releases, filtered through a DiS type lens. Maybe as time goes on this feature will acquire a nice name; for now, one is not forthcoming. Also please note this is based on UK release dates, innit, and in alphabetical order.»

Vampire Weekend's track-by-track guide to Contra

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

You've read the reviews. You've listened to the album. You've possibly just got back from queuing for tickets at Rough Trade and are maybe contemplating going to that Club Vampire Weekend thingy in Dalston on Friday. But what's the REAL story behind the New Yorkers' second album, eh? Bassist Chris Baio offers DiS the straight dope, track-by-track stylee.»

Vampire Weekend - Contra

Review by Andrzej Lukowski

Contra is a more balanced and elegant a record than Vampire Weekend, but also a markedly more subdued one.»

News by Andrzej Lukowski

Hey kids, you like Hot Chip right? But you also love techno. Oh boy. Techno? Or Hot Chip? Hot Chip? Or techno? Oooh it's a toughie, if only there was some way of having them both? WHAT'S THAT? Dutch techno bod Joris Voorn has remixed Hot Chip's 'One Li»

John Lydon defies elements, invites snowbound PiL ticket holders to Camden

News by Andrzej Lukowski

There has been a not inconsiderable degree of distrust pointed in the direction of PiL's comeback tour, much of it boiling down to three things: one, the not inconsiderable ticket price; two, the fact nobody really knows who any of the band are bar John L»

Lost 9 of '09 SPECIAL BONUS MENTION - Mountains

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

Every year we ask our staff to submit their records of the year and every year, writers put records in their lists that seem to have been somewhat overlooked both within the realm of DiS and/or across the board. Rather than leave these records as forgotten footnotes, last year we launched our imaginatively titled Lost 8 of '08 (see the 8 highlighted records here) and this year it returns, one year older 'n' wiser, as the Lost 9 of '09. Once again this little list intends to do much the same neck-out-sticking for some of our staff's personal favourites. Regulars to this series may notice that this is technically the tenth entry; well, frankly, what to do when an artist had two overlooked records this year? WE GIVE THEM A SPECIAL BONUS MENTION, THAT'S WHAT.»

ATP My Bloody Valentine: Sunday

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

Girding their loins with steely determination, Andrzej Lukowski and Dom Gourlay set their sites on this year's third UK ATP of four. Not a classic edition, it must be said, but a solid - and very noisy - entertainment nonetheless. Here are terrible things that our reviewers saw.»

Animal Collective - Fall Be Kind

Review by Andrzej Lukowski

If Fall Be Kind is noticeably less hooky than Merriweather Post Pavilion, it sounds just as ravishing, and offers an equally cohesive whole. »

2010 Preview: the best of the rest

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

Hey there - to round off our 2010 preview week, here is a list of 'other stuff' we're looking forward to. It would be dead neighbourly to post your own hopes, dreams, fears and wild speculations below. This could have been twice as long and three times as speculative, and please bear in mind that new artists with impending debuts are going to be dealt with at the start of next year - WE'RE NOT QUITE Q YET. Anyway, enjoy!»

2010 Preview: Odd bluds - Yeasayer return

In Depth by Andrzej Lukowski

Back in 2007/8, Brooklynite trio (then quartet) Yeasayer were a tricksy proposition, their debut album All Hour Cymbals lurching wildly between utter genius and slight tedium, their curious blend of world music, pop and prog alternately staggering and dull. You may therefore not be entirely prepared for the frankly magnificent follow up Odd Blood, a fantastic Eighties and Nineties flecked electro-pop album that ditches the quasi Africana and the pomp in favour of hooks so shiny you could stab a man with them. A review to come in the new year, but for now enjoy this here write up of DiS’s recent chin wag with Anand Wilder, Chris Keating and Ira Wolf Tuton.»
