Dananananaykroyd return with new album, UK tour

News by Luke Slater

Quite possibly the most fun band in the history of recorded music are making a return with a new record! Yes, it can only be Dananananaykroyd, who have been hard at work, writing and recording the songs to the follow-up to the quite brilliant Hey Everyone.»

The Kills confirm new album release

News by Luke Slater

Right, The Kills have just announced the release of a new album, but rather than us doing the writing, they've handily already done it for us, which saves us time in truth.»

Listen: Lykke Li - 'I Follow Rivers'

News by Luke Slater

Swedish starlet Lykke Li's new album, Wounded Rhymes, comes out on February 28. Album art for that below. This is both not long to wait and an awfully long time to wait. Judging by what we've heard so far in 'Get Some' and other selected cuts. There's now a new track floating around, entitled 'I Follow Rivers', which can be listened to here.»

Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch clears up cancer situation

News by Luke Slater

Following on from reports in various news sources that he was cleared of cander, Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch has spoken to clarify the situation and, although promising, it's not exactly as promising as being completely clear of the disease, which he was diagnosed with in 2009 (via NME.com).»

Listen: Download new Kurt Vile track 'Jesus Fever'

News by Luke Slater

We've all had a bit of Jesus Fever in our lives, haven't we? I mean, CHRISTmas wasn't all that long ago now and then there's Easter and countless other public holidays which are all related to the Lord in one way or another. Kurt Vile is getting a bit of the ol' Jesus Fever himself, as that's the name of a track from his new record and a track which he's giving away.»

Watch: Twin Shadow - 'Shooting Holes'

News by Luke Slater

Twin Shadow was a late contender in the album of the year's lists, but unfortunately he/they didn't manage to make as big an impression as a certain Kanye West. Yet, the self-titled debut record was, by and large, very good. Anyway, even though we are now in 2011 and 2010 now seems like a distant memory, let us not forget Twin Shadow for there is surely more goodness to come. For instance, this video.»

The Decemberists release new album trailer, stream album on NPR

News by Luke Slater

The Decemberists are gearing up to release their new record this month. It's called The King Is Dead and comes out on January 17, which is two weeks today. They've been gradually releasing a series of trailers for the album (I don't know, that's the way the net works these days) and Brooklyn Vegan premiered the latest of them today. It's #3 and, although it was "premiered", elsewhere, we're going to embed it here anyway. Don't think we're breaking any rules?»

Listen: Download Golau Glau festive EP

News by Luke Slater

We can genuinely never grow tired or jaded about musicians giving away stuff at Christmas, especially when it's themed festively. Last week we had Banjo or Freakout doing just that and now we've got Welsh wizards Golau Glau doing that too. I've finally worked out how to pronounce their name properly, so that's my present from me to them.»

Watch: PJ Harvey - 'The Last Living Rose'

News by Luke Slater

We're all rather looking forward to the new album from PJ Harvey, aren't we? Yep. It's called Let England Shake and will be released through Island Records on February 14 2011, so just under 2 months to wait. Excitingly, photographer Seamus Murphy has made and directed 12 films for the new record - one for each track - which are made up of moving and still images from a 5,000 mile road-trip Murphy took around England.»

Listen: worriedaboutsatan remix of Esben & The Witch + Merry DiSmas mixtape

News by Luke Slater

Two of the darkest, most nocturnal and indeed most promising British acts of the past few years have been worriedaboutsatan and Esben And The Witch. If you can argue against this by all means do, but you are bang wrong. That's why it's pretty damned great that the Leeds-based duo have remixed the Brighton band, especially for you.»

Listen: Download Banjo Or Freakout Christmas album

News by Luke Slater

I think, perhaps shockingly, the last time we wrote about Banjo Or Freakout (certainly in the news pages) was when he released a free Christmas album last year. Well, guess what? He's releasing another one this year, entirely for free again. For a limited time only, that is. It can be obtained from this BandCamp page and is available to the first 1,000 people who request it. I've done it, so that makes one less.»

A Hawk And A Hacksaw announce new album, video, UK dates

News by Luke Slater

The greatest thing to come out of Albuquerque? Probably Buggs Bunny, but A Hack And A Hacksaw can't be that far away from the top, can they? The group have just announced a new album for next year, which'll come out on March 7 through their own label L.M. Dupli-cation. It's called Cervantine, by the way.»

Festival News Round-Up - 17.12.2010

News by Luke Slater

Er yes. We are aware that it is -6 or something out there at the moment, and temperatures have rarely reached above 4C for about two or three weeks now, but next year's festivals are already rushing in with their announcements, presumably to get you to buy tickets on the cheap before the VAT rise comes into effect in early January. So yes, here's the much-awaited return of Festival News, Series 2.»

Last.fm reveal most listened to artists of 2010

News by Luke Slater

I remember back in the days when last.fm was an entirely separate thing to AudioScrobbler. They've been one for a while now and, although it's a service which is more than just stats, the stats are what a lot of people signed up for in the first place. It's also always interesting to see who the most played artists (and their albums) are of a certain time, and last.fm have unveiled the Top 40 of these just recently. »

Parts & Labor unveil Constant Future

News by Luke Slater

Overpowering power-rockists Parts & Labor will return with a new record next year, their first since 2008's Receivers. This one will be called Constant Future and will be the band's first record since Sarah Lipstate's departure in the Summer of last year. »
